What is PTO accrual?
Paid Time Off (PTO) accrual is the rate at which employees earn paid vacation and sick time per pay period or per hour worked, rather than receiving their entire annual allotment upfront.
How is PTO accrual calculated per pay period?
Divide total annual PTO hours by the number of pay periods in a calendar year (e.g. 52 for weekly, 26 for bi-weekly, 12 for monthly). For 18 days (144 hrs) on bi-weekly payroll: 144 ÷ 26 = 5.54 hours accrued per paycheck.
